Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes drive the selection of technology. In order for learning outcomes to drive the selection of technology, teachers must first be sure of their desired student learning outcomes. This important direction allows the efficient selection of technology applicable and appropriate for their learning outcomes. Teachers are often compelled to look to outside sources for standards in their practice, and this resource area provides links and descriptions of some of the major national standards for the subject.

The mission of family and consumer sciences education is to prepare students for family life, work life, and careers in family and consumer sciences by providing opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed for:

  • Balancing personal, home, family and work lives.
  • Promoting optimal nutrition and wellness across the life span.
  • Successful life management, employment, and career development.

National Association of Teacher Educators for Family And Consumer Sciences!

DESCRIPTION:  NATEFACS is an Affiliate of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Family and Consumer Sciences Education Division.  The purposes of NATEFACS are to improve and strengthen teacher education in family and consumer sciences. Establish and improve standards of research in family and consumer sciences teacher education. Sponsor and otherwise support professional discussion in family and consumer sciences teacher education. Encourage and promote a sufficiently full and fair discussion of the pertinent facts involving concerns and legislation affecting family and consumer science teacher education and the improvement of work and family life. Promote liaison and other cooperative professional activity among members and other having related concerns, especially other affiliates of the ACTE Family and Consumer Sciences Division.
